From the academic year 2016-17, the Honorable Supreme Court made it mandatory for medical aspirants to take National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) in order to secure MBBS admission. NEET is a national level medical entrance exam for admission to MBBS course in private medical colleges, deemed medical colleges or Government medical colleges. The Central Board of Secondary Education conducts National Eligibility Entrance Test or NEET UG in the month of May (tentatively). The NEET exam is conducted across various cities in Indian for candidates seeking MBBS admission. The NEET result is declared in the month of June (tentatively).

Engineering aspirants must qualify in NEET with requisite percentile to secure a merit seat. Online MBBS counselling will be conducted by the Engineering Counselling Committee for MBBS seats in Government Engineering Colleges under 15% All India Quota. The MBBS counselling for MBBS seats other than 15% All India Quota will be conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA Counselling) for government quota seats in all government / private / deemed medical college; whereas for seats other than government quota, counselling will be conducted by concerned private or deemed counselling authorities.

To appear for NEET medical entrance exam, the NEET eligibility criteria says that: candidates must have passed their 12th std. or equivalent examination from a recognized institute with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects as their main subjects and have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

For MBBS admission 2017 in medical colleges in Karnataka, it is mandatory for candidates to qualify in NEET 2017 that will be conducted in the month of May (tentatively) by CBSE in various test centers across India.

NEET entrance exam for MBBS admission in Karnataka is highly competitive, as students from across the country participate in securing MBBS seat in Karnataka through merit. Hence, cracking NEET is not everyone's cup of tea. Hard work and dedication are the two key elements to ace this medical entrance exam.

Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Admission

  • A candidate must obtain a minimum of marks at 50th percentile (40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC category) in NEET.
  • A candidate has completed age of 17 years at the time of MBBS admission.
  • A candidate must have passed PUC or 12th Std. with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for SC/ST/OBC category) taken together in PCB.
